Art Workshops

Welcome to The Coach House!

The Coach House is a large, open plan room on the ground floor of a period property nestled in the depths of the Cornish countryside, yet only an 8 minute drive from the centre of Truro. With three big windows, and large bi-folding doors that can be left open to ensure plenty of ventilation and light, the room looks out on a pretty, leafy, cobbled courtyard. A staircase leads to another bright room with additional room for students, and a sink for washing up paintbrushes.

Our class sizes are limited to a maximum of 14 – it’s important to us that our tutors can give each student the individual attention they deserve. This also means that there is plenty of room for social distancing so you can feel safe and comfortable whilst creating. Tutor demonstrations can take place outdoors if practical and weather permits, as can lunches, and there is also the potential to hold some workshops outside with plenty to inspire in the surrounding area – join the mailing list for news on this!

Directions

Bodrean, TR4 9AG – The Coach House is located just off the A39 between Truro (3.8 miles) and Trispen (1.6 miles).

Please note that satnav has a habit of directing people via Tresillian and through the small back country lanes, but it is MUCH easier to access the property via the A39 (the road that links Waitrose/ Dunelm Mill at the top of Truro with Carland Cross roundabout).

If heading from Truro, take the A39, passing Polwhele School then the Crematorium, and after a mile or so, there is a sign on the left of the road that says ‘Trehane’ – take that lane on the right (Bodrean Lodge is the property on that corner) – and travel along that road for 100 yards. When the road bears off to the left, continue straight on through the granite gateposts signposted The Coach House, up the drive and then follow directions for parking.

If heading south, take the A39 exit to Truro at the Carland Cross roundabout; continue on, bypassing Trispen, then after a mile, there is a signpost on the right marked ‘Trehane’ – take that left turn and after 100 yards or so, you will see granite gateposts signposted The Coach House. Continue up the drive and follow signs for parking.

Food & Drink

We are now offering a delicious Coach House Lunch option for workshops! Students can enjoy a homemade vegetarian quiche and fresh mixed salad, with a choice of bottled apple juice or elderflower presse. To order a lunch simply add a food ticket to your order at time of booking, or add one at a later date. Just make sure you order at least 2 days prior to the workshop date.

Alternatively, you are very welcome to bring your own packed lunch. Tea and coffee making facilities will be available for you to use throughout the day and water bottles can be refilled.

Students are welcome to enjoy lunch outside in the pretty garden or inside at their painting station. Seats are arranged at a social distance of 1+.

Materials

Each workshop requires students to supply their own materials according to the list provided by our artists, unless otherwise stated. You receive 10% off supplies from the shop, at any time prior to the workshop. We are also offering a drop-off service so materials you require can be delivered to the Coach House.

Order items from the materials list by emailing us at least 2 days prior to the workshop date. (i.e. orders for a workshop taking place on the 6th must have orders requested before 12am on the 3rd.) We will call you back to talk you though any options and take payment.

Paint Share

For just £10 students are welcome to make full use of The Coach House paints while attending selected workshops. We hope this makes trying a new medium much easier – no investing in paints that might not be used again! We will provide Daler-Rowney Georgian Oils or System 3 Acrylics.

(All other items on the materials list must be supplied by students. Hand sanitiser and appropriate social distancing are required if handling paints.)

This option is available on selected workshops, just add the ‘paint share’ option to your basket via online booking. Email [email protected] to check any details with us.

Coronavirus Safety

Workshops are classed as educational under the UK Government guidelines. Our students are required to wear a facemask, and we will be supplying our tutors with a visor, to keep everyone safe. Hand gel and antibacterial wipes will be available throughout the day, and the studio will have been thoroughly cleansed and aired prior to each workshop. You can read our full Coronavirus Policy by clicking the button below.Read our full Coronavirus Policy here

Accessibility

The Coach house entrance is a step up from the cobbled courtyard and the toilets, although on the ground floor, require a step up to enter. Our messy sink and tutor demonstration space is upstairs. This means our space is not accessible to wheelchair users or those who are unable to use stairs. We are already looking at ways to become more accessible and welcome any questions.

Important Information

~We are trying to keep fresh air circulating so make sure you bring some warm clothes along.

~All food and material orders are required at least 2 days prior to the workshop date. Please do wait until the day before, we may not be able to help.

~If you cannot attend a workshop for any reason we are unable to offer a refund unless we can fill your space.

How to Book

You can book workshops online, in the shop or over the telephone. We always recommend online booking because it is often very busy on the shop floor making it difficult to take phone bookings. If you would like to use a voucher to make payment please call us on 01872 240567 or pop in. Once a workshop has been booked you will receive an immediate confirmation email; and then a reminder email 2 weeks ahead of the date. Workshops are non-refundable unless your space can be filled.
