This fast paced workshop offers a small insight into the world and imagination of artist and image-maker Rob Unett. Focusing mainly on the face / portraiture, Rob will guide participants through a number of exercises and techniques that he uses in his own work to create eye catching and unique faces. Using multi-media and drawing from feeling Rob works predominantly in the abstract so to open up as many ways as possible to create a character on the page. The session will test your perceptions of portraiture and raise your media awareness.
Rob Unett is a renowned fashion artist and image maker with over 20 years of experience. Described as bold and brave, Rob works instinctively, drawing upon memories, and the immediate world around him. Rob has been featured in numerous publications and journals, and is the Creative Director of London College of Fashion.
Here is Rob explaining his work:
‘I create largely figure based and gestural works focusing on individual characteristics using lines, shapes, marks and bleeds to emit an emotional quality, usually something uncomfortable. I am a very emotional person so most my work is an introspective conduit for my experiences and feelings. In my work I’m both studious and instant. I go with the moment, unpick it and enhance it. I start quite freely, often experimentally. I rarely approach the paper knowing what I want, the outcome defines what I want, or don’t want. I mainly focus on the dressed human form, examining layers, shapes, gestures and how they represent feelings or movement. One reason I migrated into fashion was because of the more vivid and eye catching identities. I love silhouette, abstract and stylised shapes, and this is probably why I’m so line orientated’
All abilities very welcome.
