Learn how to paint incredible skies with guidance from new tutor and Diana Brooks Award winner, Georgina Potter. This workshop is best suited for those who have previously used oil paints and both amateur and professional painters are very welcome. Georgie will start the day with a demonstration, during which she will outline her methods and discuss the following;
– How the sky affects the landscape below and how to achieve the right tonal values- Comparing warm and cold colours in a landscape
– How to work out a composition
– Choosing a colour scheme/palette
– Working in a loose manner from thin to thick paint with big brushes
– Assessing your work
– Final touches
Students will then be required to produce one small fast painting within an hour using the methods described. After lunch you will have the opportunity to work on several small boards, while Georgie provides one-to-one support to help you develop an individual style.
After winning the Diana Brooks Award, Georgie was encouraged to focus on painting full time. In 2011 she moved to Wiltshire and was inspired by the changing palette of the countryside. Her work has been shown in exhibitions at The Russell Gallery, London; the 20/21st International Art Fair; Royal College of Art; The Artist Magazine Patchings Art Festival and many more. Georgina was also longlisted for Jacksons Open Art Prize 2019. “I work fast and instinctively in oils, mostly from life or as a reaction to the landscape around me onto small canvas boards and then I often work these up into bigger paintings in my studios. I try to make every brush stroke matter so that I can be economical with detail, and I frequently rub areas out and start again.”
Some experience of Oil Paints is required.
