Lin will start the workshop with a short introduction on how differences in quality of pastels achieve varying results. An initial class demonstration will introduce students to basic blending, then Lin will move on to ways in which techniques change the dynamics of an image. There will be plenty of one on one tuition given, punctuated with further demos, followed by a critique at the end if time allows. Lin feels that being a self-taught artist means that learning and progressing comes by way of playing and experimenting, and she is determined to infect her students with the fun and sense of achievement that can come from using pastels. The workshop will be shaped to all abilities, encouraging students to take on board simple techniques that will assist in evolving individual styles whilst finding the joy of creating the stunning light and atmosphere that pastels can bring to your artwork.
Lin has taught pastels to groups and art societies for over seven years, and has exhibited in a number of galleries including Custom House Gallery in Porthleven, and Trelissick Gallery. Her desire to paint is fuelled by catching the very essence of atmosphere and mood. She thrives on seeing the changing light, seasons and colours. “I never tire of walking my favourite haunts looking and watching for that special moment that will draw my eye,” she says. “To find new territories is a great excitement – there is nothing like discovering a huge sky throwing light onto slices of a new panorama, to make me reach for my pastels.”
All abilities very welcome.
