Learn how to create an atmospheric townscape at dusk using expressive watercolours and lots of water. Mix colours on the page (rather than in the palette) to depict soft skies and mellow stone. You friendly tutor will explain the benefits of painting wet-in-wet in this way, introducing you to “lifting-off” techniques, the joy of using rigid watercolour board, as well as choosing pigments that react beautifully together.

Andrew will begin with a brief introduction to his outdoor painting equipment, setup and materials. He will then introduce the oil colours used during the day and explain how and why it’s important to lay them out on the mixing palette for easy and quick access during outdoor work. - PAINT SHARE AVAILABLE

You will then go into the landscape near the studio with a sketchbook to get some ideas and look at possible locations for paintings. Andrew will demonstrate and show examples of how to record the landscape quickly and how to ‘see’ a view that has good composition, and may make a good subject for painting.

This workshop lead by award-winning artist and author Kevin Scully is an opportunity to loosen up your painting style! Work quickly and confidently using a variety of techniques and brushstrokes. Your tutor will guide you through the various steps that you can take to create a painting full of interest and atmosphere, where the elements contained within it have been implied rather than defined, leaving the eye to fill in the missing detail. A chance to venture out of your comfort zone and go a little wild!

Learn how to paint portraits in watercolour that are full of colour with an impressionistic feel, making your works unique. There will be a mixture of ongoing demonstrating and one-to-one attention that will focus on the face and how to portray feelings and emotion in a subject. You will be encouraged to develop your own style, to learn how to paint with instinct alongside technique, to simplify drawings prior to painting to enable a looser style, to paint with colour that deviates away from the norm. Most of all, you’ll have fun and come away inspired to paint more!

This workshop with popular local artist Joe Armstrong will teach you how to create striking paintings of buildings within landscapes, using a palette knife and flowing strokes of colour. During the 2 days students will follow Joe’s creative process, learning the various stages of creating a distinctive impasto painting on canvas.

Popular tutor Judi Trevorrow will teach you the art of painting flowers in acrylic. During the workshop you will explore how versatile acrylic paint can be by creating soft backgrounds and brush formed flowers.

The day will provide structured demonstrations and friendly guidance in a relaxed environment and Judi aims to help you develop your understanding of acrylic paint.
